Whatcom County Information

While Mt Baker sits in Whatcom County's back yard, Bellingham Bay and the San Juan Islands are right out front. Whatcom County has miles of shoreline extending from the Canadian border to the south end of Chuckanut Drive. Birch Bay, Blaine and Semiahmoo are located along the northern shorelines of Whatcom County. Heading south down the shoreline is one of the bigger employers of Whatcom County, the BP refinery. Further south is Lummi Nation, a Native American Reservation. Across a short ferry from Lummi Nation is Lummi Island. Moving east along Bellingham Bay is Whatcom County's largest city Bellingham. South of Bellingham is Chuckanut Drive.
Between the ocean and mountains, Whatcom County offers the quaint agricultural life. There are many raspberry and blueberry farms to the north near Lynden. Dairy farming is also prevalent in the middle eastern portions of Whatcom County.
One of Whatcom County's largest attractions is located on the far eastern border, Mt Baker. At 10,781 ft, Mt Baker is the highest elevation in Whatcom County. It is also nearby the home of the Mt Baker Ski Area, which is technically located on Mt Shuksan.
